Dr. Matthew J. Carty is a staff surgeon in the Division of Plastic Surgery and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the Brigham Women’s Hospital Lower Extremity Reconstruction Program, the co-director of the BWH Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction Program the Director of Innovation and Strategy at the Stepping Strong Center, and Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Distinguished Chair in Surgery.

Dr. Carty is at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital one Friday per month and is available for both clinic appointments and performing procedures in the operating room.

His approach to care is one that prioritizes personal attention, clinical excellence, and deep compassion. His clinic focus areas include complex reconstruction of the breasts and upper/lower limbs.

Dr. Carty’s research involves developing new approaches to restore breast and extremity function in the setting of trauma, cancer, or congenital conditions.
